ANKARA (NET) - Israelis on Tuesday hailed the resumption of diplomatic ties between Tel Aviv and Ankara on the heels of Israel's appointing an ambassador to Türkiye.
In a video posted on the Israeli embassy's Twitter account, the Israeli citizens sent their warm wishes to the Turkish people in the excitement of both countries' move to fully restore diplomatic ties.
"It's so good to have our friends back from Turkey, can't wait to see you on the beaches ours or yours!" an Israeli citizen said in the video message.
"We are so excited about the strengthening of relations with Turkey. Mazal Tov! (Congratulations)," said another Israeli citizen, expressing happiness.
An Israeli citizen, whose family migrated from Türkiye's western province of Izmir, also said: "As an Israeli with Turkish roots, my grandfather was born in Izmir, Turkey is strong and deep in our hearts, mine and my family's. So I'm sending to you from Israel – cok seviyorum (I love you so much)."
Irit Lillian, who was already serving as Israel's charge de affairs in Ankara, was appointed as Israel's new ambassador to Türkiye on Monday, as the post has been filled for the first time since 2018.
"Thank you dear friends for your warm wishes after being chosen as the designated Ambassador of #Israel in #Türkiye," Lillian said on Twitter.
"So honored to continue this journey, putting two amazing countries, so close to my back together again," she added.
Türkiye and Israel have been taking steps to normalize ties, including a decision on Aug. 17 to restore full diplomatic relations and reappoint ambassadors and consuls general after a four-year hiatus.
