Turkish Foreign Ministry called on all parties to show restraint amid soaring tensions triggered by Israeli attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus.
In a written statement, Turkish Foreign Ministry said, “In light of the latest developments, it is becoming increasingly evident that the tensions that were initially caused by Israel's illegal attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus risk turning into a permanent conflict.”
The ministry urged all parties to “refrain from steps that could lead to a wider conflict,” noting that Ankara is closely monitoring the events in the region.
“The priority of the international community should be to stop the massacre in Gaza and to ensure lasting peace in our region by establishing a Palestinian state,” it added.
Tensions soared in the Middle East when Israeli strike on Iranian Consulate in Damascus killed seven military advisers on April 1 which was followed by Iran's retaliatory strike on Israel Saturday.
Early Friday, Israel reportedly launched a strike on an Iranian base in the central province of Isfahan. However, Iranian state media said the strike caused no major damage.
