ANKARA (NET) - Turkish Parliament on Tuesday approved a presidential motion on the extension of Turkish soldiers’ mandate in neighboring Azerbaijan for one more year.
The mandate of Turkish soldiers would be extended as of Nov. 17, 2022.
Based on international law and legitimate sovereign rights, Türkiye which threw its strong support behind Azerbaijan to defend its rights including territorial integrity continues to make significant contributions to the preservation and strengthening of peace and stability in the region, the motion said.
It went on to say that its efforts continue on the construction and revival of the economic infrastructure in a way that facilitates peace and stability.
The joint Russian-Turkish military center that monitors the ceasefire regime and all military operations in Karabakh, continues its activities without any problems, it noted.
Following Azerbaijan’s operation to liberate Armenian-occupied regions, Russia and Türkiye opened a joint center in the Aghdam region last year in January to observe the ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The frozen conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh was resolved after Azerbaijan’s operation which resulted in the liberation of villages, and settlements from Armenian occupation in the fall of 2020.
Türkiye and Azerbaijan inked an agreement on strategic partnership and security cooperation in 2010. The treaty envisages mutual support by “using all possibilities” in the case of military attack or aggression against either of countries.
